Good riddance 2008

Good riddance,
How can I say that to a year that gave me so much?
Turbulence and turmoil,
Re and re and more re thinking everyday,
That I would need more patience and more perseverance the year next,

Old bonds turned into bondages,
The bindings turned into shackles,
Iron they were not and melted with a little heat,

The year that gave me new old friends,
The strings which were unseen were quite strong,

Sleeps and reasons to sleep,
Dreams of flowers and new faces,

Children’s smiles and joy’s
To have seen them grow and learn,

New faces and friends
Facebook and books of faces old

More grey hair all around,
More resolutions to keep fit
Learning to say no
Listening to yes,

To have a thicker skin,
New technology
More wings,
Longer chain on my anklets.

The coming year promises more,
More resolve,
More of everything absolute,
Sure there will be more demanding situations,
This year has taught me enough to handle the next better.

All that was of the year that was,
Better than the last and bitter than the arriving,

We have eyes in front and not back of our heads,
Looking forward to the year ahead
As if we have a choice.

Good riddance though.
